My name is Laila, I'm 15 years old and a student from the Jac P. Thijsse college in Castricum. In december me and 14 other students will go to Dharavi, Mumbai, India (https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dharavi)
Dharavi is with it's 2 million people one of the biggest slums in Asia. We are going to visit a school in the slum to teach the children about subjects like English, geography, maths and dance. In these slums education is the key to a better life, sadly there is not enough money to provide school materials and such. Therefor we want to raise funds so these children have better education and chances in life. This trip was made possible by my school in cooperation with the REAP organisation.
Think of children in dark, dingy factories. Think of children in rag-picking. Think of children in far away rural areas. Theirs is a life of struggle, of hopelessness, of salvaging garbage to eke out a living, of ill equipped schools. Their world is surrounded with darkness, darkness of illiteracy. Dreams there never were. Their world is the slum or the village. It begins and ends there.
The better place is school. Unfortunately, this is still is a distant dream. Yet, we know, the future of the country is shaped in her classrooms...
REAP opens up for them a new world through education, a world beyond their slum or village, a chance to dream again. Through a unique program that literally takes education to their doorstep, it is transforming lives. It starts with a child and ends with the elders, especially women, bringing in its loop an empowerment of peoples.
Thank you for visiting us. Your support will bring more smiles on the faces of children. Thank you for your time. Please donate. The money you donate will be transferred to an account managed by my school. For more info about REAP go to: http://www.reapchild.org/
greetings Laila and students
